The Alila chain bills itself as “surprisingly different”, and in many respects it is. Set amid the lush green overgrowth of the Ayung River valley, nestled in the foothills of Bali’s central region, the Ubud resort’s 56 rooms and 8 villas all afford a view of the Ayung River and nearby volcanoes, and the resort’s “award-winning” emerald green infinity pool offers the most majestic views around.
Designed by well-known firm Kerry Hill Architects, the rooms are built on stilts set into the river’s banks, and meld features of the old (thatched roofs, wood) with new (plaster, concrete and glass) to create a unique vision of contemporary Balinese. “Bedscapes” include white down comforters and high thread-count sheets.
The contemporary Balinese vibe extends to the dining room of coconut pillars and thatched roof, where Balinese specialities rub elbows with “healthy” cuisine and international favorites on the menu. Alila’s impressive spa mixes traditional beauty methods with modern know-how.
Alila Ubud is a tranquil and secluded hillside retreat that sits high up on the edge of the rich green Ayung River valley in Bali’s central foothills. The resort is located just minutes from Ubud, the island’s cultural heart.
