About the Hotel

Many visitors to Luang Prabang go to commune with nature, only to be stuck on a crowded street with hundreds of backpackers. If deodorant-free throngs are not your idea of communing, a good idea would be La Residence Phou Vao, the only hotel nestled into Phou Vao Hill, or the “hill of kites”.

Once known as the Pansea, this three-hectare “Residence” hews to the best of both worlds – a prime hilltop location for the hermits, plus a short hike to the city center for the socialites. The minimalism reigning in the lobby and around the infinity pool area extends to the rooms, full of silk, rosewood and open space, with verandahs overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage town or gardens. 

The restaurant, which overlooks the frangipani-scented pool area, blends a mix of Laotian and French fare with a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains: Luang Prabang at its naturally beautiful best. 

Location & How to get there

La Résidence Phou Vao is located 4 km east of Luang Prabang International Airport and only 2 km from the old town of Luang Prabang, a Unesco World Heritage Site. The town is well-preserved featuring traditional Laotian architecture and European colonial buildings, set in a remote and peaceful confluence of the Mekong and Nam Kam rivers.

The hotel enjoys a unique location as the only hotel in Luang Prabang built on Phou Vao Hill - translated as the hill of the kites. This vantage point affords panoramic views looking out over the countryside.

Community Projects - Green Thursdays
Every Thursday at La Residence Phou Vao, the boutique hotel in Luang Prabang, Laos, the staff gather their brooms and brushes and set out on tuk tuks to collect rubbish, waste and discarded plastic, to help keep Luang Prabang clean and unpolluted.

Deemed ‘Green Thursday’, this private initiative is the first of its kind in the area, and has been organised by La Residence Phou Vao to set a good example and help encourage others to do their part in preserving the environment.    

More than 10m³ of waste and plastic is collected each Thursday by La Residence Phou Vao.
