About the Hotel

Slip into the slippers of a 17th-century Malay king, thanks to this time machine of a resort modeled after a chunk of ancient Malaysian history. But don’t expect to go without all the luxuries you would expect at a five-star destination.

Rooms are a study in “comfortable modernity”: all simple white framed by dark wood accents, all looking out onto the South China Sea. There are four types of rooms: Banjung Rooms house king-sized beds; Serambi Rooms sport verandahs. The more expansive Anjung Rooms include sofa beds and sunken outdoor baths in private gardens, while the Anjung Suite boasts a separate living/dining area.

You can also eat like a king at The Nelayan, which specializes in seafood, as well as at the more informal Di Atas Sungei (“Above the river”) and poolside Teratai Terrace. Get a massage like a king, too: the holistically themed Spa Village here focuses on uniquely Malay treatments handed down from generation to generation.

Location & How to get there

Tanjong Jara Resort is situated on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, between Kuala Terengganu in the North and Kuantan in the South. The Resort is built on a 17-hectare site facing the South China Sea. The riverine town of Dungun lies west of Tanjong Jara and is eight kilometres away.

The Resort is accessible by road from all major cities within Peninsular Malaysia. It is approximately a mile away from the expressway and one hour drive from Kuala Terengganu Airport.
