About the Hotel

The resort that calls itself “one of a kind” could very well be – it’s a tropical rainforest hideaway and beach resort rolled in up one. Enveloped on all sides by luxuriant greenery, The Datai in Langkawi boasts nature reserve-like buildings, a stunning and centrally located pool and a secluded white sandy beach only a few steps away.

Rooms take up the design riff of “colonial mansion lost in the wilderness”.  Floors are burnished hardwood, décor is sleek and simple, and an ample number of windows lend the rooms a bright, airy feel.  Rooms range from deluxe (private bars and balconies), to pool villas (well … private pools, duh) and suites with ensuite baths.

“All-in-one” could also apply to the dining options. The Pavilion provides Thai cuisine and alfresco views of the surrounding forest. The all-occasions Dining Room serves western and local food, and the stunning Malaysian-Indian Gulai House, enjoys a thatched, Hobbit-y feel.

Location & How to get there

The Datai is located 30 minutes away by car from the island's international airport, which is 20 km west of Pulau Langkawi's main town, Kuah. Domestic flights are scheduled daily between Kuala Lumpur and Penang, while international flights come in from Changi Airport in Singapore and London (twice a week).

The airlines that service the Langkawi airport include Malaysia Airlines System (MAS), Silk Air and Air Asia. Departure points for visitors who opt to travel by boat or ferry to Langkawi are from Kuala Perlis, Kuala Kedah or Georgetown on Penang Island. Visitors from Thailand depart from Satun.
