Naladhu promises “understated” luxury, and if that means a classy twist on tropical colonial design, then this resort delivers. Maldivian for “beautiful island”, Naladhu is aptly named, ringed by coral lagoons and bungalows that are the epitome of “beach house luxury”.
Unlike the modernistic pretensions of other tropical resorts, Naladhu hopes to conjure up thoughts of home – but in a beach setting. It succeeds, thanks to spacious “houses” on the beach or over the ocean, with hardwood floors, plush white sheets, and even gourmet bar cabinets. Antiques, gardens and pools also form part of the picture.
Theoretically, you can dine on lamb and tuna in the comfort of your own “house”, but guests itching to “go out” can dine at the Living Room, where the menu changes daily depending on what is available at the market that day. And this being the Maldives, spa and beach experiences are just a few steps away.
