The Fort House is charmingly restored 200 year old house located in the heart of the historic UNESCO heritage site of Galle Fort. The house was built at the start of the 19th Century for a Dutch merchant and his wife.
The house decor is an eccletic mix of traditional features and modern furnishings. A courtyard pool provides a focal point of dappled shade, perfect for ending a day of sightseeing, surfing or taking it easy around Galle Fort. There is a west facing roof terrace with great sunset sea views and the evocative panorama of the Dutch Fort ramparts - the perfect place to sink into the deep chairs and sip a cool sundowner.
The main sitting/dining room is long and high with feature archways, vast comfortable sofas, cool white walls and floor and is gently lit from lamps and recessed fittings. Furniture, colourful local art and ornaments reflect the traditional craftsmanship of Sri Lanka, old and new, whilst the locally made teak dining table shows the high quality of modern skills.
The Fort House is located approximately 3.5 hours from Colombo, 4.5 hours from the airport by road. By air Colombo and the airport are reached in under one hour.
