Location & How to get there

Kadju House is about 190 km from Colombo. During the day, the drive from Colombo takes approximately 5 hours via the southern coastal road. But the route, along alluring beaches and through bustling villages, is very picturesque.

The journey time can be reduced by at least an hour in the early mornings or late evenings. There are interesting spots and diversions along the way. We particularly recommend a stop in Galle.

Deccan Aviation's helicopter flight from the international airport to Tangalle is 1¼ hours at a cost of US$2,300.

  Kadju Spa

  The 4,000 year-old Ayurvedic tradition of herbal medicine is still widely practiced in Sri Lanka. Local therapists offer simple massages or more specialized treatments in Kadju House's cool, breezy spa room with its cinnamon stick walls. A garden of medicinal herbs is being laid out under the supervision of Dr Vasantha, the area's foremost Ayurvedic expert.

  Sea Life

  The warm, clear waters of the Indian Ocean are ideal for body-boarding and swimming all year round. Fishing boats land in the morning and fresh fish can be bought directly from the boats. Around the rocky headland from our cove lies a long, curving bay with more enticing spots for sun-bathing and beach-combing. Boating, fishing and snorkelling trips can be arranged, when guests may encounter pods of playful dolphins and migrating whales.

  Kadju Restaurant

  Our chef, Anton, cooks both Sri Lankan and European food. Fresh fish can be bought straight from the fishing boats on the beach. We serve fresh organic ingredients from nearby waters, local markets and our own vegetable garden. Fishermen amble by the villa with lobsters and fish caught that day just offshore and if required, Jumbo, our delivery man can source a wide variety of other equally fresh seafood. With advance warning, we can arrange delivery of fine wine and champagne.

  Read

  The garden and the living spaces have plenty of spots for reading, resting and contemplation. Each bedroom has a copy of the Cinnamon Peeler --- a collection of poetry by the Sri Lankan author Michael Ondaatje. For an island of its size, Sri Lanka has made a remarkable contribution to world literature. There are many celebrated authors of Sri Lankan origin, such as Michael Ondaatje, Shyam Selvadurai and Romesh Gunesekera. The island has also inspired foreign writers, including Pablo Neruda, Paul Bowles, Arthur C Clarke and Leonard Woolf, who all lived and worked here for a time.

  By the Pool

  The 36-foot-long rooftop infinity pool seems to merge with the breaking waves below as you swim along it towards the sea. Those who want to stay dry can sunbathe on the adjacent terrace or lounge in the breezy and shaded pavilion, with its mesmerizing view of the sea and gardens.
