Hua Hin 77110
Thailand
Often, Hua Hin can seem as sleepy and backward as its year-round residents. Anantara Hua Hin, part of a network of stylish Anantara properties spread across Asia, bucks the typical Hua Hin trend with a luxurious take on traditional Thai structures, mixing spires and wood with fountains and a seaside location.
Rooms also represent a fusion of Thai and Western styles. Rooms, draped in silk and girded with teakwood, face the lagoon, ocean or garden. Balconies with dining tables or terraces with sun loungers complete the pretty picture, adding to the feeling of light and space.
The only thing fusion about Anantara’s Italian-themed dining outlet, Baan Thalia, is its name. Munch on steak and seafood al fresco at Sai Thong, or stuff your face at the breakfast buffet at Issara Café. The resident Anantara Spa, set lagoonside, will pamper away the indigestion.
While the classic way to travel to Hua Hin in bygone days was via the historic railway, the laid-back luxury of Anantara Hua Hin Resort & Spa has been made even more accessible with 2.5hr drive via modern expressways and the introduction of regular flight service to Hua Hin Airport (HHQ) from Bangkok.
Environment
All Anantara Resorts have effective recycling, energy-conservation and waste management measures already in place. It is very challenging for tourism to be completely sustainable as every industry has impacts, but it can work towards being more sustainable in many ways. In 2008, particular areas of focus will be to reduce waste and pollution as well as identifying effective ways of reusing grey water and dealing with solid waste.
Further investigations into the use of solar power, biodegradable products and energy-efficient light systems will also be undertaken. On-going training programmes will be refined to make Anantara staff more aware of the difference ''green'' actions can make and to encourage them play their part.
