About the Hotel
One of Thailand’s very first boutique concept hotels remains among its most, shall we say, enigmatic. Highfalutin monochromatic design and shards of high-style photography jostle with an astute eco-awareness to create a unique property on Chaweng Beach, only minutes from the normal hustle and bustle of Samui.
Here, the land comes first: buildings hew to the original contours of the land, keeping as many of the old coconut trees on the property as possible. Local materials are used in construction wherever possible, and whatever it is, keep it simple (“a suitable honorable way to behave in a Buddhist country”, the website proclaims).
Rooms are hip – and Thai in design – without “aspiring to excess” (read: hardwood floors, plain white sheets, uncluttered walls). Dining-wise, enjoy a Thai and seafood meal in one of Budsaba restaurant’s private salas on the beach, before lounging at Panyee Pool Bar or grabbing a paperback at the library.
