Pansea Beach

Among the first to meld ancient Thai style with very modern luxury, Amanpuri stretches across a quiet stretch of beach in one of Phuket’s toniest “neighborhoods”: a good fit with the resort’s own high-style, high-concept and high-priced identity. Sanskrit for “place of peace”, Amanpuri is known as the first Aman resort and does a very un-control-freak-like job of mixing the original coconut grove with the resort’s high-gloss surroundings.
Amanpuri calls its architecture “sympathetically conceived”, and visitors can see what it means: locally inspired design meant to place nature in the spotlight. Earth-tone interiors showcase local artwork; stone steps sweep down to a slate-gray pool; high-ceilings show off the surrounding greenery.
Restaurant choices are just as classy. The Terrace serves Thai and European fare. The Restaurant serves Italian, the Beach Terrace serves lunch on good-weather days, and Naoki does fusion, French-and-Japanese style. During high season in the winter, the Beach Club even does torch-lit barbecue.
Phuket Island is off the west coast of the Kra Isthmus, 890km south of Bangkok. First mentioned by Ptolemy in the 2nd Century, the island was a regular port of call for Arab and Chinese ships. Portuguese and Chinese settlements began to appear in the 18th century. Phuket is 50km long and 21km at its widest point. Connected to Thailand’s Phang Nga province by bridge, the island is surrounded by the azure Andaman Sea.Phuket is served by numerous domestic and regional flights. Bangkok is 1_ hours flying time away and has connections to major international destinations.
