About the Hotel

Once voted one of the hottest new resorts of 2004 by Conde Nast Traveler, The Racha is one of those rarities – a pretty little resort destination with a “green-minded” heart. Striving to be a leader in ecological tourism, The Racha needs little artificial enhancement to show off its many charms: pristine beaches, clear water and a multitude of coral.

Larger-than-average villas convey the illusion of grandeur via an almost complete wash of white space, mixed with a lot of open space. The Lighthouse – said to be one of the most unusual hotel rooms in the world – is a five-storey villa with observation deck, private pool and 360 degree views over Racha Island.

Dining outlets represent three elements: all-occasions Earth Café, Italian-themed Fire Grill, and after-dinner Ice Bar, as well as the barbecue-minded Sunset Beach Restaurant. Check out the signature package at Anumba Spa after a long day of snorkeling or at the hotel’s five-star dive center.

Location & How to get there

The Racha only 12 miles south of Phuket just 25 minutes by speed boat from Phuket’s Chalong Bay. Sea conditions during the transfer are unpredictable and guests are encouraged to wear appropriate and light attire. Guests arriving later than at 16:00 at Phuket International Airport cannot be transferred to The Racha on the same evening as they do not operate boat transfers after dark.

The Racha will assist in making alternative arrangements for overnight stays in Phuket in case of incoming flight delays but will not be financially responsible. The Racha will not operate the boat if there is the slightest safety concern due to high winds or uncertain sea conditions and will make alternative arrangements for the guest until the situation is deemed safe.

Additional Information

Environment
Sanctuary Resorts and the management at The Racha strive to be leaders in environmental conservation. The resort will provide free of charge disposal of non-organic waste for all residents on the island; who until recently had no other solution than just throwing this away on the island. The resort treats its waste water for recycling in the garden and energy conservation efforts are part of the design and resort's philosophy.

During the construction, The Racha has limited the cutting of trees as much as possible; dispersing the resort's villas to be build among the trees; not replacing them. Whenever a tree needed to be removed, 2 trees were planted as replacement.

The Racha only features non-motorized watersports and encourages the many divers and other local residents to protect the environment too. A marine-research facility will be part of the facilities of the resort; enabling the guests to learn more about environmental protection.

The resort's pool is non-chemical and water is treated through Ozone.
